Local Christmas Gifts Everyone Will Love

Written by: Carla De Guzman/Monday, Dec 07, 2015 08:23 AM

It's that particular time of the year when you start thinking about what gifts you’re supposed to give. That means you need to buy one special but general thing to give to distant relatives, work colleagues, or a neighbor or two. With everyone flocking to supermarkets and hotels for gift hampers, why not send out a unique gift made by Filipino businesses? These little gifts help support small businesses, and are sure to be unique!

Oliver and Maude

This chic little shop sells especially monogrammed items (plates, glasses, perfume bottles and cutting boards!), but we fell in love with the pillowcases and white leather pouches with a sampaguita pattern designed by Alessandra Lanot. They can be made especially with the monogram, but the ones without are pretty too.

The Craft Central’s Starter Kits

Looking to inspire others to pick up a new habit? One of Manila’s favorite art suppliers, the Craft Central, also sells starter kits that have anything you need to pick up a new hobby. We recommend the Lettering Starter Kit, co-designed by Abbey Sy, to help you pick up on hand-lettering!

Aromateria Scents and Sensibilities

Oh sure, everyone’s giving away peppermint or vanilla scented candles this year, but we love Aromateria’s quirkier line of scents and soaps. From Beer Soap (with Rosemary Mint, Lemon Ginger, Butterscotch or Banana!) to gorgeous little solid perfumes, these artisanal scents are sure to be a hit.

Habil Crafts

For friends and family who dream of planting their own gardens, or just looking for a way to pretty-up their spaces, Habil Crafts has a whole line of products to add a little green in your life. We are completely crazy over their terrabulbs—basically a garden in a big lightbulb!

Claire Ganzon Art

Here’s a gift everyone might like—hand-painted designs printed into canvas placemats by local artist Claire Ganzon! Her delicate, detailed style makes for beautiful mats (and notebooks!) that bring a nice pop of color into any dining table.

The Fruit Garden

You know that little jar of jam sitting pretty in every hotel restaurant? The Fruit Garden sells for Christmas gifts too! Locally made and sourced fruits and ingredients are made into delicious jams in jars too pretty not to reuse! Our favorites are Strawberry Mint and Mango Lavender, and they have honey available too.

Alchemy

If you’re looking to give away food this year, we recommend calling up Alchemy by Meryl. Her macarons have been hailed as some of Manila’s best, and when they come in gorgeous boxes designed by Arlene Sy and other local artists, how can you say no?
