8 Tips for a Cozier Home

Nothing like coming home to your own cozy little nook where you can just lay down, relax, and enjoy a good book (with a cup of coffee, of course!). If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your space and give it a more comfy vibe, here are a few cost-efficient ways you can do it.

Curtains Up!

Hang up drapes or curtains to control the natural light coming into your room. In choosing the color, it depends on what you want to achieve: use light shades to make your room look more spacious, and use darker and warmer shades to make it look cozier.

Texturize

Keep your room looking nice and toasty by adding furry rugs, carpets, seat covers, or throw pillows. But don’t limit yourself to faux fur - you can also have leather chairs, distressed wood tables, and velvet curtains for a dynamic effect.

Warm it Up

Veer away from bright colors and opt instead for warm tones like yellow, orange, and brown. These colors make a space feel more intimate and cozy.

Find comfy furniture

How will you know it’s the bed, chair, or sofa for you? Test it out, and if you see yourself spending the whole Saturday afternoon there, either reading a book, sipping coffee or cuddling up with someone, then you’ve found the one.

Layer

Layering doesn’t only work for your wardrobe. Cover your bed or sofas with a comforter and then plop on different sized pillows to make them look inviting. You can also have your blankets on display; they serve as both decoration and wonderfully useful items that you can use on a chilly night.

Keep things light

Let the light in - but not too much. Don’t use harsh flourescent lights as they can kill the mood. Instead, have multiple sources of soft light, like floor and table lamps, and even candles or a fireplace.

Share Your Room with Nature

It doesn’t have to be a big, full-blown garden. Keep a terrarium with small, easy-to-maintain plants like succulents, and watch how they liven up your space.

Personalize your space

Make it yours! Add framed photos of your family or artworks you or your friends made. Give it character by displaying quirky items you picked up from your travels, from flea markets, and craft stores.
