Best Bites in Town: Explore Wine Country with Sally

There’s a lot to be said about the Wine Country of California. It’s a paradise where you have a real excuse to sit back and relax with a sip of the perfect glass of Chardonnay or signature Sauvignon Blanc. For those who grew up watching Disney, it evokes memories of our favorite childhood fantasy courtesy of the movie, Parent Trap. (Admit it, you wanted to live in Napa Valley with Dennis Quaid, with your own horse and kickass pool, just like Lindsey Lohan did.)

Whatever the reason, California’s Napa Valley is a beautiful landscape made rich with its fabulous wines and delicious dining. The atmosphere here feels a bit slower than its LA or San Francisco counterparts, but it doesn’t make us love it any less.

On last Sunday's episode of Spice to Lifeworld-class pastry chef Sally Camacho took us on a quick tour around Napa Valley. We've listed the restaurants here, so you can try out the exquisite food and wine for yourselves!

Alpha Omega Winery

This elegant winery on the Rutherford Bench likes to call itself a ‘boutique winery,’ boasting a gorgeous estate with a farmhouse-style bar right beside a lake with a fountain. Guests are encouraged to sit under the cabanas on the patio while they sip their wines. Their six-acre winery is famous for their white wines - the winemakers highly recommend the 2012 Reserve Chardonnay, although their 2012 Proprietary Red Cabernet blend has also gotten excellent reviews online.

Solbar at Solage California

Feeling up for a staycation? The Michelin-rated Solbar is a cool, stylish place to relax over a glass of beer or taste something spectacular. We’re totally intrigued by the Frozen Kirin Ichiban, a popular Japanese beer that they’ve taken to a whole new level by putting it in a slushie machine that slowly freezes it. This develops into a cold, frothy topping which is then placed on top of a cold glass of beer, keeping it cool and making it the perfect summertime drink. Pair this with their Crispy Petrale Sole Tacos or their seasonal Agnolotti!

Santa Rosa Original Farmers Market

Santa Rosa has everything you’d ever want in a farmers market—everything is bright, fresh and colorful, with friendly vendors and, if you're lucky, a marching band! Each of the farmers are certified with the County Agricultural Commissioners office, guaranteeing freshness at all times. They make sure that the items they sell are from their own markets. There are tables for seating, free drinking water at the information booth with events all year round.
